2024 was a great year for the Firm. We were trusted to represent nearly 200 new clients, helping them navigate the criminal justice system in San Diego, in both State and Federal Court. An equal, if not greater, impact was delivered to the San Diego community, working hand in hand with numerous social justice and youth mentorship organizations. We also added to our already strong support staff with the addition of Constance Hardin and Jamil Jones. While everything changes, at least a little over time, one thing will always remain constant at the Firm: our unwavering commitment not only to our clients but to delivering an everlasting impact to the criminal defense community beyond criminal defense.
Specifically, in 2024, we collaborated with and/or sponsored in some form the following organizations: Walk with Me Impact, BLAC Leadership Alliance, GrindGeek Football Camp, Second Chance, Youth Empowerment, Lawyers Club, The Andre Reed Foundation, Pure Laughter on KPBS, Asian Solidarity Collective, San Diego Padres Foundation, Center for Employment Opportunities, San Ysidro Health, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, and Labs and More (Dog) Rescue.
2024 also marked the 20-year anniversary of perhaps the most significant date before the Firm was even founded in 2010: April 26, 2004, the day David Shapiro was arrested and spent time in jail for a crime he, admittedly, did commit. Looking back two decades, David refers to that experience as a “blessing,” both personally and professionally. That was the day the Firm’s mission of helping good people regain control of their future when charged with a crime was really born. Many people say David is part of the “lived experience” crew, but we are not so sure. After all, it was only 20 hours of involuntary time on the inside!

“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To himself, he’s always doing both.” – James A. Michener
