Leukemia Scholarships

This contest is closed. Congratulations to our winners Ashleigh & Andrew

David P. Shapiro Criminal Defense Attorneys has announced that will be offering two (2) scholarships annually, each one in the amount of $1,000, for people who have been diagnosed with leukemia.  These are educational scholarships, and will be awarded in the form of tuition paid to an educational institution selected by the winner.Leukemia is cancer of the blood.  Those who are affected by the condition face emotional, physical, and financial challenges.  In the case of students, the burden of being diagnosed with leukemia can lead to the abandonment of a person’s educational goals.  We, at David P. Shapiro Criminal Defense Attorneys, are committed to doing our part to encourage those with leukemia to further their schooling and realize their educational objectives.

Scholarship Description

The scholarship program being offered by David P. Shapiro Criminal Defense Attorneys consists of two separate annual scholarships.  The amount of each scholarship is $1,000.  They must be used for tuition to further the applicant’s trade school, secondary, college, or community college education.  You do not have to be currently attending school or college in order to submit an application for a scholarship.  Within a year from the date the scholarship is awarded, you must provide us with a tuition invoice issued by the educational institution, and a check in the amount of $1,000 will then be sent to the institution.

Who is eligible for the scholarship program?
The scholarship program is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with leukemia, and who is interested in pursuing secondary or post-secondary education.

What is the deadline for submission of the application?
The completed application, including all attachments and uploads, must be submitted by November 9, 2016.

Requirements for submission of the application

  • Online application (below).
  • Short statement of not more than 100 words telling us how you intend to further your educational goals.
  • Essay (optional) discussing how being diagnosed with and/or treated for leukemia has affected your day to day activities. The essay must be between 650 words and 1,000 words.

How the application process works
Your submission will include completion of the online application, as well as your agreement to be bound by the terms of our program.

Winners will be chosen, in part, based upon the activity generated online by their application.  For example, essays which make interesting reading – based upon style and/or content – may generate more interest.  The ultimate decision in all cases will be at the sole discretion of David P. Shapiro.  Winners will be chosen on or before December 8, 2016, and they will be notified via email.

If you have any questions, they should be directed (preferably by email) to:
